The Election Commission has recommended today (10) that for the 3000 government officials who have submitted their nominations for the local government elections 2023, only the basic salary of the officials concerned should be paid during the delay period from March 09 (yesterday).
In view of the continuous demands of the public employees who handed over the nominations to provide some relief, the Election Commission has forwarded the relevant recommendation to the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils, and Local Government. That by informing that the arrangements should be made to get a Cabinet decision regarding the Election Commission’s recommendation.
The local government elections were previously scheduled to be held on March 9 (yesterday) and the postponed elections are now proposed to be held on April 25.
However, many candidates who are government officials have informed the Election Commission that taking unpaid leave for a long period of time has hindered the family’s economic status due to the prevailing economic situation.
