A new election commission is to be appointed soon and this time several retired deputy election commissioners are to be appointed to that commission, according to high-ranking government sources.
The sources also state that several parties have pointed out to the government the need to appoint officers with extensive experience in conducting elections to the Election Commission and accordingly, the members representing the Legislative Council from the government side have paid more attention to it.
According to the sources, the acceptance of applications of the applicants to be appointed as members of the independent commissions ends tomorrow, after which the new election commissions will be appointed soon.
It is also reported that several retired Election Commissioners have applied for the appointment of new members of the Election Commission.
Will the so called new independent election commission be independent or appear to be independent. Or discretely dependent. The term independence seems to be farcical in this country.
