The Chairman of the Election Commission Mr. Nimal Punchihewa said that the Election Commission will ‘not issue’ an extraordinary gazette notification to start the local government election process and inquiring about such matters is a misunderstanding of the facts.
He said that after receiving the nominations for the local government elections, it is the normal procedure for the election officials to issue a gazette announcement containing the signs and numbers of the political parties and independent groups.
Mr. Nimal Punchihewa said that the gazette notification will be issued in the near future with the signatures of the respective district election officials.
