07 suspects, including Sisila Kumara, the former police chief of the Monaragala Division, were arrested by the Police Special Task Force with a stash of Cannabis. They were kept in custody by the Criminal Investigation Department on a hold order and were produced before the Monaragala court this evening. One suspect was released on bail, while all the other suspects were remanded until the 24th.
A resident of Moratuwa Egoda Uyana who was arrested while traveling in a jeep with the Senior Superintendent of Police has been released on bail.
Among those remanded is the Athimale Police OIC, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department last night.
A portion of a stash of Cannabis was found in the official residence of Senior Superintendent of Police Sisila Kumara during a raid conducted by the Athimale police.
The Police Special Task Force found 654 Cannabis trees in the official residence of the Senior Superintendent of Police in Monaragala, and the weight of the Cannabis was more than 20 kg.
