Secretary of the Min. of Public Administration apologizes to the Election Commission

The Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration has apologized to the Election Commission for the letter he issued recently (10) to the District Secretaries/Electoral Officers to suspend the acceptance of election deposits related to the local government election until further notice.

This is after the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration summoned the Election Commission and inquired about it today.

The Election Commissioner General says in a statement that the Secretary further confirmed that if any inconvenience was caused to the Election Commission due to the issuance of the relevant letter, he apologized for it and would work to prevent such a situation from occurring in the future.

Presenting the facts, the Secretary had said that according to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, which assigned the responsibility to him, the relevant letter was issued for the implementation of those decisions.

He has also stated that he acted to withdraw the letter within an hour as he felt it was not appropriate.

Further, the Secretary stated that there was no idea or intention to interfere in the process of the Election Commission, and only the implementation of the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers was done.

He said that there was no prejudice to the process of collecting election deposits as the letter was withdrawn within a short period of time after release.

It has also been mentioned that 131 recognized political parties and independent groups deposited their election deposits the following day.

The Election Commission said they explained to him the duties of the Election Commission and the powers assigned to the Election Commission by the Constitution of the Government and how government officials should act in accordance with the Constitution of the Government in the event of an election.
