The 15th commemoration of the victory of ending the thirty-year war in this country will be held this afternoon (19) in front of the Battaramulla National War Heroes Memorial.
The ceremony will be presided over by the Prime Minister and war heroes including the three armed forces commanders and the Inspector General of Police are going to participate.
The relatives of the war heroes who died in the war are also going to join the occasion.
Meanwhile, in conjunction with the 15th National War Heroes Day, 3146 sailors of the Navy and 114 officers of the Regular and Volunteer Brigade of the Army and 1395 other ranks have been promoted to their next rank with effect from today.
These promotions have been given by the respective army commanders subject to the approval of the Commander-in-Chief, President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Meanwhile, the police headquarters has announced that Parliament Road will be closed this afternoon on the occasion of the war heroes’ commemoration.
Accordingly, from 3 pm today, the road from Polduwa Junction to Keynham Junction will be closed like this.
The police have also requested the drivers to use alternative routes during that period.
