    The nurses are preparing for a protest this week as well

    Nurses at hospitals across the country are preparing for another trade union action this week, asking for solutions to trade union problems.

    The health authorities had been given 14 days to resolve the issue of nurses and that time period is due to end tomorrow, said the General Secretary of the All-Island Nurses’ Association Mr. S. B. Mediwatta said.

    Mr. Mediwatte said that the trade union action will be launched from next week based on several demands including providing a hazard allowance of five thousand rupees to the nursing staff, giving Covid vaccines to their family members, strengthening the Nursing Council, Acceleration of Nursing services Constitution, deploying nursing staff only on safe duties etc…

    Mr. Mediwatte also said that a strike was launched in the hospitals on May 31st to obtain the demands of the nurses.

    He said that the government should take necessary steps to provide facilities to the 38,000 of nursing staff who are engaged in high-risk and heavy duty in the face of the Covid epidemic.
