    Foreign workers send money in the right way – remittances up by 16%

    Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment Mr. Manusha Nanayakkara said that the foreign exchange sent to the country by foreign workers in August has increased by 16.4% compared to July this year.

    He said that the number of workers who have registered with the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau to leave for foreign employment this year has exceeded 200,000.

    According to the minister, the amount of foreign labour remittance which was 279 million US dollars in July has increased by 46 million dollars to 325 million dollars by the month of August.

    The minister said that he would like to express his gratitude to every foreign employee who has legally sent money through the banking system, and that all Sri Lankans need the support of foreign employees at this time.

    This year there was a target of sending 300,000 workers for foreign jobs and the target has been increased to 330,000.
