Sri Lanka went down in the Human Development Index

In the Human Development Index released by the United Nations Organization for the year 2021, Sri Lanka has recorded a relative decline compared to the previous year.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka is ranked 73rd in this development index, which is prepared annually based on 191 countries around the world. That’s a one-place step down from 2020.

The Human Development Index focuses on three basic areas, where life expectancy takes into account healthy living conditions, educational conditions through access to knowledge, and good living conditions.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka has a value of 0.782 in this index and Sri Lanka is among the countries with high human development according to the Human Rights Development Index.

Between 1990 and 2021, the human development value of Sri Lanka changed from 0.636 to 0.782, which is a change of 23.0%, according to the United Nations.

Meanwhile, between 1990 and 2021, life expectancy at birth in Sri Lanka has changed by 4.5 years, while schooling time has increased by 2.7 years and expected schooling time increased by 2.9 years.

However, India is 132nd in this index from a group of 191 countries.

In the meantime, the United Nations has revealed in this report that the global human living standard and life expectancy have greatly decreased in the recent past.

A big reason for this decline was the corona epidemic that spread all over the world in the last two years.
