Risk of South Indian fishing vessels entering Sri Lankan waters

Fishermen in Jaffna say that there is a risk of South Indian fishing vessels entering the northern seas in the future as the ban imposed on South Indian fishing vessels to set sail ends today (15).

The fishermen in Jaffna say that the ban was imposed on South Indian Fishermen due to inclement weather and also barred them from entering the northern seas of Sri Lanka.

Fishermen suspect that South Indian fishermen will be able to plunder Sri Lanka’s fish resources more easily than usual at a time when Sri Lankan fishermen are restricting their voyages due to the diesel and kerosene crisis.

Leaders of the Northern Fisheries Union have discussed the matter with the security forces in the North and officials at the Indian Consulate in Jaffna.
