The issuance of passports has increased by more than 100 percent, according to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
Its media spokesperson, Deputy Controller of Immigration and Emigration Piumi Bandara stated that 2,500 passports were issued yesterday (8) alone.
About 1,200 passports were issued about two weeks ago, but now 2,500 passports are being issued daily.

The head office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Battaramulla now has to issue passports starting at 6.15 am and ending at 10.00 pm, she added.
