A supplementary estimate of Rs. 695 billion submitted to the Parliament

The Cabinet yesterday approved a supplementary estimate to provide the necessary funding to minimize the suffering of the people due to the adverse economic conditions and to ensure that essential government services are maintained without hindrance.

The statement issued by the Cabinet Office in this regard is as follows.

At the beginning of 2022, the government introduced a relief package for Samurdhi recipients, estate people, retirees and state sector employees to minimize the hardships faced by the public due to the adverse economic conditions.

It has been decided to submit a supplementary estimate to Parliament to cover the cost as well as the necessary funds to continue the essential state services without hindrance.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies to submit a supplementary estimate to Parliament for the provision of Rs. 695 billion in allowances under the “Budget Assistance Services and Emergency Needs Responsibilities” project of the Department of National Budget, was approved by the Cabinet.

    1. Highly doubt whether this will help the suffering poor. Most probably this will go towards the re building of the politicians destroyed houses.
      Sad but true.
