Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Northwestern provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today as the southwest monsoon continues to develop across the island, the Met Department said.
Meteorological Department warns that there could be around 100mm of rain, in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in some places in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara Districts.
Showers are also expected in the Northern Province and in the Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts.
The Meteorological Department warns that strong winds of 40-50 kmph are expected in the western slopes of the central hills, in the northern, north-central and north-western provinces and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
Meteorological Department warns of possible strong winds eith thundershowers and the public is informed of the steps to be taken to minimize the dangers.
