Huge drop in tourist arrivals during this month

The number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka has dropped by 60% by this month, according to the Tourism Development Authority.

Its Director-General Dhammika Wijesinghe said that the food and fuel crisis as well as the unrest in the country and its publicity through the international media had a direct impact on the decline in the number of tourists visiting the country.

She also stated that in the current situation, building the country’s economy through the tourism industry will be a challenge.

However, if the fuel and food crisis is resolved and the country is stable, some progress can be expected in the tourism industry by next July, said the Director General of the Tourism Development Authority.
