Russia has decided to cut off power to Finland from today (14).
According to Western media reports, Russia has decided to suspend the supply of electricity to Finland, claiming that they have not been paid properly.
Responding to Russia’s decision, Finland said Russia was supplying a very small percentage of their electricity to the country and would use alternative sources to meet that demand.
Meanwhile, Finland announced last Thursday that it plans to join NATO and with this, Russia announced that they would take steps to respond.
However, Russian media reported that there was no connection between suspending power supply and Finland’s decision to join NATO.
Finland shares 1,300 km of border with Russia and has previously withdrawn from NATO to avoid a dispute with their neighbor. However, public support for NATO membership has increased since Russia invaded Ukraine.
