It has been decided to release the stocks of rice to all supermarket chains which has been issued so far only to Lanka Sathosa.
Trade and Samurdhi Minister Shehan Semasinghe said that the decision to release them within the next week was taken during discussions with the relevant departments.
The Minister further stated that this measure will be effective until the stock of imported rice is exhausted.
The maximum amount of rice that can be purchased per customer is 05 kg.
The maximum retail prices of such rice are as follows.
1 Kg Nadu rice – Rs 145.00
1 Kg Samba rice – Rs 175.00
