Fowzie acquitted of a bribery case

The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today (29) ordered the acquittal and release of Former Minister A. H. M. Fowzie in the case filed by the Bribery or Corruption Commission against him.

This order has been taken into consideration following a request made by the Bribery Commission to the Court to withdraw its charge sheet.

It is reported that this case has been filed alleging that A. H. M. Fowzie had personally used the luxury car worth Rs. 20 million gave by the Netherlands when he was the Minister of Disaster Management.

Mr. Fowzie, a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, last represented parliament from the United People’s Freedom Alliance.

He also served as the Minister of State for National Unity and Reconciliation in the Yahapalana government.

However, Mr. Fowzie was later expelled from the SLFP.
