    World Bank provides US $ 600 million in financial assistance to Sri Lanka

    The World Bank has agreed to provide $ 600 million in financial assistance to Sri Lanka.

    Of this US $ 600, US $ 400 million will be provided soon under the first phase, said Chiyo Kanda, Permanent Representative of the World Bank to Sri Lanka.

    Ms. Chiyo Kanda made this observation during a meeting between World Bank representatives and President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at the President’s House in Colombo Fort this afternoon (26).

    The money will be used to meet medicine and health needs, social security, agricultural and food security and gas needs.

    The World Bank representatives also stated that they will continue to provide assistance to Sri Lanka in overcoming the current economic crisis.

    World Bank’s Adviser for Sri Lanka Husam Abudaga, Head of Human Development Rene Solano, Minister of Finance Ali Sabri, Minister of Trade and Samurdhi Development Shehan Semasinghe, Secretary to the President Gamini Senarath, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance K. M. M. Siriwardena, Secretary to the Ministry of Labor M. P. D. U. K. Mapa Pathirana, Deputy Secretary to the Treasury R. M. P. Ratnayake and Director General of the Department of National Planning R. H. W. A. Kumarasiri were also present at the occasion.
