Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Finance, who is on an official visit to India has signed an agreement with the Government of India today to obtain a loan of US $ 1 billion.
The Media Center for National Development says that the Minister will sign the relevant agreement at 3 pm today.
The center says that the alleviation this gives to the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka is priceless.
The Finance Minister had held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday.
Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Finance also called on Indian External Affairs Minister Mr. S. Jayashankar and held discussions.
Jayashankar has posted a note on his Twitter account saying India will continue to support the needs of the people of this country and a fruitful discussion was held regarding the economic partnership between the two countries.
