The Secretary to the Ministry of Public Service, Provincial Councils and Local Government has issued a special circular to the Heads of Government Institutions to prevent the use of government vehicles for non-essential travel.
It also states that fuel should not be used for non-essential travel.
The Secretary to the Ministry has also instructed to restrict the invitating heads of institutions who use government vehicles, for special conferences and discussions to be held in Colombo.
Arrangements will be made in the future to conduct such workshops and meetings through Zoom video conferences.
The move is aimed at reducing the cost for fuel and to reduce consumption.
