The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has stated that they are completely opposed to the proposal to levy a 25% surcharge on the Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF) and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).
Their advertising secretary, MP Shantha Bandara, says the party’s Politburo, the Central Committee, and the Administrative Committee will discuss the matter with the party leader, former President Maithripala Sirisena, who is currently abroad, to how to proceed in the future.
He also said that he hopes to discuss the matter with the President and the Minister of Finance in the future as tax collection from ETFs and EPF funds is a major issue affecting working people.
MP Shantha Bandara has further stated that the Minister in charge of the subject has also objected to the proposal to levy a surcharge tax on these funds.
