Robots exchange Olympic torch underwater to kick off Beijing Winter Olympics

For the first time in history, two robots light and exchange the Olympic torch underwater to mark the start of the Winter Olympics.

A torchbearer hands over a torch to a robot at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Beijing, China and the robot then ignited the Olympic torch held by another robot at the bottom of the Yonding River.

The Chinese government has used a special smoke-free, environmentally friendly gaseous fuel to light the flame.

It is special that the designer is able to overcome challenges such as maintaining a temperature and pressure difference to keep the flame burning underwater.

The much-anticipated Winter Olympics kicked off today in Beijing, China, amid obstacles to the spread of the corona virus.

Competitors from all over the world are currently in Beijing to take part in the Games.
