    President requests another loan from China to pay debts

    President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has requested Chinese Foreign Minister and Member of the State Advisory Council Wang Yi to focus on the possibility of restructuring debt repayments as a solution to the economic crisis caused by the Covid pandemic.

    Addressing a meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (09), the President said that if a concessionary trade loan scheme could be obtained for imports from China, it would enable the industries to run smoothly.

    The President thanked on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka and the people of Sri Lanka for the material and financial assistance received from China in the face of the Covid epidemic.

    The President also thanked the Chinese Government for its continued support in providing Sinopharm vaccines to Sri Lanka for the successful implementation of the Covid vaccination program.

    Sri Lanka has been opened to tourists under the new generalization. The President requested Wang Yi to assist in attracting Chinese tourists to Sri Lanka while keeping them in a bio-bubble.

    Mr. Wang Yi invited the President to visit China and expressed confidence that this would happen in the near future.

    Chinese Foreign Minister visits Sri Lanka to further strengthen 65 years of diplomatic relations between China and Sri Lanka.
