Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said the media could play a role in making governments, but not protect them.
He made these remarks at the function to mark the launch of the special insurance scheme for media personnel.
He said what is portrayed by media is used by some elements to bring the country into disrepute.
“Media can make governments but not protect them. Only those who run the governments can protect them,” he said.
He said some of those in the government had not realized it.
