Free insurance cover for journalists from tomorrow under the patronage of the President

The awarding of Softlogic Life insurance policies to journalists under the ‘Asidisi’ Insurance Project launched for journalists will be held under the patronage of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees tomorrow (02) at 10.00 am.

3000 journalists have been selected for the first round of the ‘Asidisi’ Journalist Insurance Project.

98 journalists representing all media institutions will be granted insurance policies tomorrow.

The Ministry of Mass Media and Information has launched the ‘Asidisi sudden accident and Medical Insurance Scheme’, an insurance scheme for journalists, which is a unique proposal made by the Government Policy Statement for the upliftment of the media sector.

The purpose of the ‘Asidisi’ Insurance Project is to ensure the future security of journalists, who play a vital role in transmitting accurate information to the public, with a responsibility to use the media impartially and ethically.

Journalists who have a journalist identity card issued by the Department of Government Information and do not have insurance cover from a media institution had the opportunity to apply for this.

‘Asidisi’ Insurance provides financial assistance for residential medical care, outpatient treatment, treatment for serious illnesses, hearing aids and the purchase of spectacles.

This year’s budget allocation for the Acid Insurance Program implemented by the Ministry of Mass Media and Information is Rs. 100 million and no fee is charged from journalists for this purpose.
