    After today (01), gas cylinders will be issued after examining the odor

    The Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Trade has decided to release gas to the market from today (01) after examining the odor of the gas cylinder, the Parliamentary Communications Division said.

    It was also agreed at the meeting to implement a program to test the quality of gas cylinders while they are on ships before bringing them to Sri Lanka.

    The Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Trade was met on the instructions of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

    Accordingly, the meeting was held under the patronage of Minister Bandula Gunawardena, Chairman of the Consultative Committee, at the Parliament Complex this morning (1).

    Its purpose was to seek the views of several parties and seek solutions to the sudden gas tank explosions.

    State Minister of Consumer Affairs Lasantha Alagiyawanna also participated in the discussion.

    Several issues raised by the Opposition in Parliament were also discussed at length with the relevant parties.

    Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa raised a number of questions and requested that they be answered in writing or as soon as possible.

    Comments were received from all parties present at the discussion and from the members of the parliament on the gas tank explosions.

    Officials of the Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Cooperative Services Marketing Development and Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Technology, State Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational Education Research and Innovation, Sri Lanka Police, Consumer Affairs Authority, Department of Measurement Standards and Services, Litro Gas Company, Laugfs Gas Company, Sri Lanka Standards Institution, the Sri Lanka Accreditation Institute for Conformity Assessment, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, the Ministry of Energy and the Analyst’s Department and Former professor at Sri Jayawardhanapura university D. W.W. Jayathilaka, Prof. Shantha Walpolage of the University of Moratuwa and Petroleum Specialist Nimal de Silva were also present at the meeting.

    In addition, Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Udaya Gammanpila, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Minister of State Lasantha Alagiyawanna and a group of Parliamentarians were also present at the event.
