The Ministry of Education has given instructions to all schools to refrain from engaging students in outdoor sports training activities or sports festivals or any other external activity during the days of today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow (Feb. 28, 29 and March 01) because of the prevailing high temperatures.
It has been predicted that the high temperature in the environment these days may increase further.
Relevant instructions have already been forwarded to the provincial and regional education authorities to inform the principals of all the schools in this regard.
It is further informed to proceed according to the series of instructions issued jointly by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education to the schools.
In the past 24 hours that ended this morning, the highest temperature in the island was recorded as 36.8 degrees Celsius in Colombo district.
