Haitian President Jowanel Moss has died in an attack on his home in the capital, Haiti’s interim prime minister has said.
Claude Joseph said the president’s home in Port-au-Prince was demolished by unknown gunmen.
The First Lady was also reportedly injured in the attack.
Joseph said that “all measures have been taken to ensure the continued existence of the state.”
Jovnell Moss, 53, has been in power since February 2017, following the resignation of his predecessor, Michael Matteli.
Faced with allegations of corruption, Moss was a powerful dictator during his tenure and was often challenged by violent anti-government protests.
There were widespread protests in the capital and other cities earlier this year, demanding that he should resign.
