Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa has announced that he is seeking legal advice in response to the recent Supreme Court ruling holding former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, and former Minister Basil Rajapaksa responsible for the economic downturn in the country. Speaking to the media in Kandy after religious ceremonies, Namal Rajapaksa emphasized his respect for the court’s decision and commitment to abiding by the rule of law.

Rajapaksa stated that while he acknowledges the court’s decision, he is actively seeking legal counsel to comprehensively understand the intricacies of the judgment and explore potential courses of action. He reiterated his commitment to the law and expressed his intention to continue monitoring the developments arising from the court’s decision.

Addressing broader political matters, Namal Rajapaksa called for unity within the opposition, emphasizing the importance of defeating the budget through parliamentary means. He stressed the opposition’s responsibility to identify and highlight deficiencies in the budget, urging a collaborative effort to achieve this goal.

Discussing economic policies, Rajapaksa expressed concerns about certain proposals in the budget, emphasizing the need for practical and people-centric approaches. He touched upon the challenges posed by high commodity prices and the importance of balancing tax policies for the benefit of the public and the private sector.

Namal Rajapaksa urged the people to participate in parliamentary processes and emphasized the role of parliamentarians in representing the concerns of the public. He underscored the significance of public voices in decision-making and encouraged constructive discussions in Parliament to address economic challenges.

On the topic of sports, particularly cricket, Rajapaksa emphasized the importance of keeping sports free from political interference. He expressed concern about potential political conflicts affecting players and called for non-political support for sports. In relation to international cricket matters, he suggested that if the International Cricket Council (ICC) communicates decisions to the government, it should be addressed appropriately without political interference.
