A police constable attached to the office of the Colombo DIG, who is accused of touching a disabled girl suffering from polio and making her naked in front of her mother, was arrested yesterday by the Kosgoda police officers.
A 20-year-old girl residing in Induruwa has been assaulted by this police officer.
The police say that this disabled girl has been taking care of the police officer’s mother for about two years. When this officer came to the house yesterday, he accused the disabled girl that 10,000 rupees in his wallet were missing and that she had stolen it.
She has said there that she has not committed such a theft. The police officer said that she and her mother had committed this theft together. The officer then locked the girl and her mother in a room of the house and stripped her completely naked in front of her mother, the police said. Police say that the girl’s complaint shows that he touched her body and squeezed her breasts under the pretence of checking her.
The young woman told the police that the police officer hit her when she refused to remove her clothes.
The police say that before the complaint of this girl was received at the police station, the police officer came and filed a complaint about the loss of 10,000 rupees in his wallet.
The suspect police officer is scheduled to be produced in court today.
