Water levels in Castlereigh and Maussakale reservoirs have decreased by about 50 feet

The engineers in charge of the reservoirs say that the water capacity of Castlereigh and Maussakale reservoirs is rapidly decreasing with the extremely dry weather prevailing in the central hills these days.

With the current extremely dry weather, the water capacity of Castlereigh Reservoir has dropped by 44 feet from the overflow level, and the water capacity of Maussakale Reservoir has dropped by 49 feet from the overflow level, the engineers said.

It is said that due to the rapid decrease in the water level of the reservoirs, many ruins including the temple and the Hindu kovil of the old Maskeliya city, which were submerged during the construction of the Maussakale reservoir, have resurfaced.
