It is reported that the examination department has to pay a sum of Rs. 2.5 billion to the teachers who conducted the General Certificate of Studies A-Level and O/L examinations.
Mr. Joseph Stalin, General Secretary of Ceylon Teachers Union, said that if the payment of the arrears is delayed further, it will become more problematic to examine the A/L answer sheets and do the examination duties.
Meanwhile, teachers of 13 answer sheet evaluation centers refrained from evaluation activities for several hours this morning due to the non-payment of the advance amount of five thousand rupees to the teachers who are engaged in the evaluation of the answer sheets of the General Certificate of Advanced Level Examination.
It is reported that the examination department had promised to give an advance amount of 5000 rupees at the time of the evaluation of the answer sheets, but until this afternoon they had failed to give the amount.
