The World Health Organization has announced that the outbreak of Covid-19 is no longer a global public health emergency.
“Yesterday, its committee met for the 15th time and recommended me to end the public health emergency of international concern. I acceptedc that advice,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a press conference.
“It is therefore with great hope that I declare the end of the COVID19 global health emergency. However, this does not mean that COVID-19 is over as a global health threat. Last week, COVID-19 claimed a life every three minutes. It’s just the deaths we know, and as we speak, thousands of people around the world are fighting for their lives in intensive care units. Millions more continue to live with the debilitating effects of the post-COVID19 situation. He added.
