PHIs start taking food & water samples in the areas of Erathna, Nallathanniya, and Nuwara Eliya

Public health inspectors have started again taking water and food samples, and inspecting the restaurants in the areas of Erathna, Nallathanniya, and Nuwara Eliya.

They have also announced that public health inspectors will continue to carry out epidemic control activities.

Public health inspectors say that four pilgrims have lost their lives in the last few days, and 10 people have fallen ill.

According to them, although the cause of death has not been confirmed yet, they suspect food poisoning or bacterial infection based on the symptoms.

All the devotees engaged in ‘Sri Pada Vandana’ and other pilgrimage journeys should take as much drinking water as possible from their homes after boiling it and take care to get only food that has been stored safely.

There is no need to panic in this regard and if there is any risk, measures will be taken by the health departments to inform the public properly.

Below is how Erathna Public Health Inspectors collect food and water samples.
