    The term ‘Slave Island’ is no more

    The government has decided to use ‘Komangya Veediya’, which was known as Slave Island in English, as ‘Komangya Veediya’ in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.

    This decision has been taken in conjunction with the 75th Independence Day, as instructed by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

    The Prime Minister’s Secretary Mr. Anura Dissanayake has instructed the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government to make appropriate amendments in this regard.

    In this regard, the Postmaster General and the Municipal Commissioner of the Colombo Municipal Council have also been informed.
