    A new update to pensions

State Minister for Provincial Councils and Local Government Mr. Janaka Wakkambura says that 85% of the salary of retiring public servants will have to be given back to them as pensions.

The Minister of State mentions that about 30,000 government employees are going to retire at the end of this year.

However, he emphasizes that there will be no collapse in the public service due to the retirement of a large number of people.

Thus, among the people retiring, there are people from every organization like the security sector, corporations, boards etc.

The State Minister further mentioned that a committee headed by the Prime Minister’s Secretary has been appointed to balance the public service, which is said to be a burden to the country.

Arrangements have been made to make the services permanent with the aim of employing those who got jobs under the 100,000 job program since a large number of people are going to retire after attaining the retirement age of 65 years in public service.

Also, arrangements have been made to give promotions to about 1,400 people who have appeared and passed the exams while being in the office assistant position.

Accordingly, the focus is on making the public service efficient.
