Sri Lankan-born Dr. Gabriel appointed to the White House as a Presidential Commissioner

Sri Lankan-born Dr. George E. Gabriel has been appointed a member of the White House Membership Presidential Commission. The appointment was made by US President Joe Biden.

Born in Batticaloa, George immigrated to the United States after graduating from the University of Kelaniya. Dr. George E. Gabriel is a lifelong educator and researcher with over 40 years of experience on two continents.

Dr. Gabriel received his PhD from the University of Vanderbilt as a Scholarship recipient of the Fulbright program, an educational and cultural exchange program between the United States and Sri Lanka. He has spent more than half a century as a researcher and administrator.

The White House has announced that the Commission will represent a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and professions, as well as outstanding citizens who reflect America’s diversity and strength. It is the responsibility of these commissioners to recommend to the President a group of candidates to be elected as members of the White House, a prestigious program of leadership and public service that provides young Americans with the experience of serving at the highest levels of federal government.

“These leaders represent the best in America – I am grateful to these dedicated and talented Americans for their support in selecting and advising members of the White House who demonstrate our collective nature, creativity and diversity, exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment and a strong commitment to public service.” President Biden told the commission.
