Cabinet approval has been granted to provide new houses to the affected families on the expressway connecting the new Kelani Bridge and Athurugiriya.
Accordingly, 1100 new houses will be provided to unauthorized occupants and damaged homeowners.
The construction project of this expressway is in progress with four lanes from the new Kelani Bridge to Athurugiriya running on poles.
The need was identified to provide alternative housing for unauthorized occupants, unauthorized sub-families, families residing on lands less than 06 perches as well as unauthorized occupants of the land on which the Dematagoda Stadium is to be constructed.
Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the proposal made by the Minister of Highways to provide housing to those 1,100 families who will lose their homes, using the Kolonnawa, Henamulla and Maligawatta housing projects which are being implemented by the Urban Development Authority.
