Asgiri Maha Vihara faction mourns the death of the queen

Chief prelate of the Asgiri faction, Most Venerable Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thero, is issuing a condolence message saying that the people of Sri Lanka were deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II through the official announcement of Buckingham Palace.

The condolence message issued on behalf of the Asgiri Maha Vihara sect has been addressed to Mrs. Sara Halton, the British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka.

The British royals are treated with great respect by the people of this country, and Queen Elizabeth II, who contributed to the birth of an agricultural era, has a special place there, said in the announcement. Among the Mahaweli development schemes, the construction of the Victoria Reservoir has brought thousands of hectares of agricultural land into productive condition.

It is stated in the announcement that there is a long history of bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Britain and that the majesty of the Queen was instrumental in building Sri Lanka as a modern state.

Chief prelate, who mentions that he remembers the Queen’s visits to Sri Dalada Palace during her visits to Sri Lanka in 1954 and 1981, also mentioned that we express our deepest condolences to the members of the Royal Family of Great Britain including King Charles III and the people of Great Britain at this sad moment.
