Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said today that the Parliament expects the support of all parties to successfully complete the polling to be held tomorrow (20) to choose the successor president by respecting democracy.
He mentioned this in the parliamentary affairs committee held today (19) in the morning.
The speaker also said that he appreciates the support of all parties to successfully conduct this process of selecting the successor president within the relevant legal framework.
Mr. Dhammika Dasanayake, the Secretary General of the Parliament, who will be the Returning Officer of the secret poll held tomorrow, said that before the polls, all the necessary guidelines will be informed to the MPs as per the Election of the President (Special Provisions) Act No. 2 of 1981.
Meanwhile, it was decided in today’s Parliamentary Affairs Committee that the Parliament will meet again on the 27th. It was decided to submit the emergency proclamation announced by the Acting President under the Public Security Act for approval on that day.
