Preliminary investigations have revealed that the shooting that took place at Moraketiyare in Tangalle last night and the shooting that took place at Ahangama last night were the work of the same shooter.
The two shootings have killed two people who allegedly provided information to the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Navy to seize more than 200 kilos of narcotics in the high seas belonging to Harak Kata, who is currently staying in Dubai. Investigations have revealed that a boatman was killed in Ahangama and both were involved in drug trafficking.
The shooter was riding a motorcycle when he shot the victims in The Moraketiyare and Ahangama. Police have found the motorcycle abandoned on a by-road in Tangalle this morning. Investigations into its number plates have revealed that the motorcycle was used with fake number plates. It is suspected that the motorcycle was stolen.
Officers from the Fingerprinting Unit are to be called there this morning to inspect the motorcycle.
The shooter has not yet been identified. A senior police official said that there was information that the shooter and the motorcyclist had fled in a car leaving the motorcycle on the by road.
