Use electricity sparingly – Water levels have dropped further

The Ministry of Power and Energy says that the water level in the reservoirs associated with the hydro power plants has dropped further rapidly and as a result the generation of hydro power has come to a very low level.

Therefore, the people of the country are requested to use electricity sparingly, the ministry said.

According to the Ministry of Power and Energy, water levels have dropped in Castlereagh Reservoir up to 15 m, Maussakelle Reservoir up to 13 m, Samanala Wewa Reservoir up to 25 m, Kotmale Reservoir up to 24 m, Victoria Reservoir up to 27 m, etc.

The Ministry further states that the generation of electricity from the Mahaweli reservoirs will be further restricted due to the need to release water for drinking and agricultural purposes and therefore urges the public to use electricity and water sparingly.
