Two underworld motorcyclists chased down another 02 underswor5 motorcyclists and shot them dead by a T-56 assault rifle at the Kadawatha 09 post after chasing them down on the Colombo-Kandy road.
The murder took place at around 10.30 last night, said SSP Rohan Dias in charge of the Kelaniya division.
The victims were aged between 30 and 31 and were residents of Peliyagoda, the Police Media Spokesman’s Office stated.
Police have received information that a person who had deserted from the army and joined the underworld was among the victims and that he was involved in drug trafficking.
The man was also charged for murdering a person by stabbing and cutting to death in 2015, police said.
It has been reported that this person had fraudulently obtained drugs from leading drug traffickers and had incurred the wrath of drug traffickers regarding non-payment. Police suspect that the murder may have been related to that incident.
