    A request for Sri Lanka by 14 countries to support Ukraine

    Ambassadors of 14 Western countries call on the Government of Sri Lanka to join Ukraine in actively supporting international peace and security.

    High Commissioner of Australia in Sri Lanka, High Commissioner of Canada, Head of EU Delegation, Ambassador of France, Ambassador of Germany, Ambassador of Italy, Ambassador of New Zealand, Ambassador of Norway, Ambassador of Japan, Ambassador of Rome The request was made by the Ambassadors and High Commissioners of the United States of America in a joint statement.

    In their joint statement, they point out that the Russian government has carried out an aggressive disinformation campaign against Ukraine in a false attempt to justify its invasion.

    Russia has made false allegations accusing NATO of provocation. In the Ambassadors’ statement, it is mentioned that NATO has always been a security alliance and poses no threat to Russia.

    However, it is reported that the Sri Lankan government has not yet responded.

    On the other hand, Russia has stood with Sri Lanka on a number of occasions in the recent past when Sri Lanka came under pressure from a number of Western countries.

    Russia has been a close ally of Sri Lanka in trade, commerce and defense.
