    The operation to rescue Sri Lankans in Ukraine begins

    The Ministry of External Affairs says that it is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and is currently in the process of deporting approximately 40 Sri Lankans across the Ukraine-Poland border.

    The process is facilitated by the Sri Lankan Embassies in Warsaw and Ankara.

    It also includes two students in Ukraine.

    The Ministry also stated that the supply of resources to the Sri Lankan Embassy in Warsaw has been strengthened to facilitate the process of deportation of Sri Lankans.

    The Sri Lankan Ambassadors to Ankara and Warsaw maintain close ties with Sri Lankans leaving Ukraine, ensuring that they can travel safely and return to Sri Lanka.

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also monitoring the situation of Sri Lankans in countries sharing land borders with Ukraine.

    It was also announced that the Sri Lankan missions will be in touch with the relevant Consulates and Sri Lankan Citizens in the respective countries.

    The Sri Lanka Embassy in Moscow which is concurrently accredited to Belarus continues to communicate closely with approximately 1,600 Sri Lankans, including 1,556 students studying in over eight universities and higher learning institutions in Belarus.

    The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Moscow is in direct contact with relevant university authorities, student and parent groups, as well as other relevant institutions in Belarus, regarding the safety and welfare of Sri Lankan students.

    Parents will be provided with regular status updates as deemed necessary.

    The Ministry urges Sri Lankans in the region to maintain close relations with the relevant Sri Lankan Missions.
