A suspect has been arrested in the Ragama Janapriya Mawatha area yesterday (20) for taking vehicles from the owners and defrauding them of money by promising to sell the vehicles and return the money.
Officers of the Nugegoda Western Province (Southern) Crimes Division are conducting investigations following complaints of three breaches of trust by buying and selling vehicles from owners without paying.
The suspect had obtained a jeep worth Rs. 450 lakhs from a person in the Negombo area, a cab worth Rs. 225 lakhs from a person in the Athurugiriya area and a car worth Rs. 185 lakhs from a person in the Ja-Ela area.
Investigations have revealed that the vehicles had been sold and evaded the pre-owners without payment ever since.
