    Power cut from tomorrow!

The Public Utilities Commission says that if the demand exceeds the supply of electricity there will be power cuts as previously announced during the next week beginning tomorrow (21).

Accordingly, if such a situation arises, it is planned to cut off power under the four previously announced categories.

The Sapugaskanda and Yugadanavi power plants have been shut down due to lack of fuel and the loss to the national grid is 370 megawatts of electricity.

Although the shortage can be met by generating hydropower during the daytime, it is reported that the power supply may be disrupted during the night.

Seven power plants, including the Kelanitissa Combined Cycle Power Plant, were shut down due to the inability to supply fuel.

However, the supply of fuel for the Sapugaskanda power plant complex and several other power plants has already commenced.

Even though it was a Saturday yesterday (19), the maximum electricity demand in the country had increased to 2,470 MW.

Meanwhile, a ship carrying 37,300 metric tons of diesel arrived in the island last night (19) and another ship carrying 37,500 metric tons of diesel is scheduled to arrive in the island today (20).
