A 10-year-old boy suffering from fever and pneumonia has died after being left at home without being taken to a doctor to treat while his parents were praying to god for a cure.
Police say that they had been praying for several days in the morning and evening, leaving the dead body on a bed in the house, claiming that the dead child would be resuscitated.
Residents of a nearby house had informed the police that the body was decomposing and starting to stink, and the police had gone to the house yesterday and inspected it.
The incident took place at Adiyamulla in Badalgama.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that the child’s parents and grandmother were arrested on suspicion in this regard.
The body of the child was taken to the Negombo Hospital for an autopsy and the matter was reported to the court, said the Chief of Police in charge of the Negombo Division, SSP Saman Sigrera. He added that the post-mortem examination would reveal the exact date of death of the child and the cause of death.
