    Cape Town parliament on fire

The parliament building in Cape Town, South Africa, caught fire this morning.

According to reports, flames and black smoke were seen in the distance.

The fire started at around 5 a.m. in the morning and spread to other parts of the building, foreign media reported, citing officials.

According to Smith, a member of the mayoral committee for safety, the fire was so severe that “cracks in some of the walls had already been reported.”

Dozens of firefighters rushed to the scene and asked for more resources. “Even the tar on the roof is melting, it is a sign of intense heat,” said Jerome, a spokesman for the Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service. He said there are fears that the building would collapse.
