Former Chief Minister of the Uva Province and current Member of Parliament Chamara Sampath Dasanayake’s case alleging that the principal of the Badulla Tamil Balika Maha Vidyalaya was brought to his knees was settled by the Badulla Conciliation Board yesterday.
The case was settled with the consent of the Principal of the Badulla Tamil Girls’ College, Mrs. Bhavani Raghunathan and Mr. Chamara Sampath Dasanayake also agreed.
The incident, which caused a great deal of controversy across the country, took place in 2018 and the principal of the Badulla Tamil Maha Vidyalaya had complained to the police that the principal had been summoned and brought to her knees for not admitting a student to the school as per a letter by Chamara Sampath Dassanayaka.
The complaint was filed by the Badulla Police in the Badulla Magistrate’s Court and the case was referred to the Mediation Board on the instructions of the Attorney General.
It was concluded yesterday after a lengthy hearing at the Mediation Board.
Addressing the media after the case was settled, MP Chamara Sampath Dasanayake stated that the principal of the Tamil Maha Vidyalaya had made a false complaint at the request of a certain group.
Mr. Dasanayake also said that his political career was brought into disrepute due to that complaint.
However, he said he remained silent until the truth was revealed.
When inquired about the incident by the media, the principal of the Badulla Tamil Girls’ College stated that she had lodged the complaint as she had been pressured by a certain group.
But the group is not with her at the moment and Ms. Ragunathan expressed her regret to the former Chief Minister regarding the incident.
